After raising $13,200 in AVON 39 – The Walk to End Breast Cancer in San Francisco July 11-12, Heffernan Group’s Ta-Ta Sisterhood headed to New York to log another 39.3 miles in the fight against breast cancer. The New York walk took place over the weekend of October 17th and 18th.

Michelle Lonaker, Director of Philanthropy and the Heffernan Foundation, who walked in both the SF and NYC walks, led a new team to the Big Apple. Michelle, Amber Carlson, Kerry Dantzig, and Jay Christensen of Heffernan were joined by Merideth Wieland, Andrea Tomassi, and Vickie Moul to form the Ta-Ta Sisterhood NYC team. All are from California and traveled to New York specifically for the event.

Together they’ve raised an additional $17,000 with more donations coming in in the weeks after the walk. The group held a fundraising event at Soda Popinski’s in San Francisco on August 19th, raising roughly $1400 at the event. Each walker exceeded her total goal of $1800 before the event.

The team started prepping for the walk in July. They did so by walking on weekends, sometimes up to 20 miles in one day. The AVON 39 is broken up over two days: 26.2 miles on Saturday, and 13.1 miles on Sunday.

The team braved 40 degree weather to complete the walk. This marks the Ta-Ta Sisterhood group’s 10th AVON 39, and the second year the Ta-Ta Sisterhood has done two walks in one year (the first time was in 2012).

We are so proud of all our Ta-Ta Sisterhood teammates for their hard work to raise money for the fight against breast cancer, including braving cross-country travel and cold East Coast weather! Our sincerest congratulations go out to the Ta-Ta Sisterhood for completing the walk.

The AVON 39 walk has raised $550,000,000 since 2003. For more information on joining the Ta-Ta Sisterhood’s 2016 SF Walk Team, please contact Michelle Lonaker at michelleL@heffgroup.com.
