On January 25, 2013, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights (OCR) published the final privacy and security regulations (the Final Rule) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The Final Rule implements the changes required by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009.
